Merry Skimas – the perfect programme for the Christmas period

The music on the radio, the aroma of incense and baking in the houses as well as the numerous Advent markets and glühwein stalls send us an unambiguous signal: Christmas is upon us! Since it is already very wintery this year, with moreover an outstanding wild honey year, a lot of wasps and numerous mushrooms also pointing to a hard winter, and the thistles and mullein having grown to a considerable height, I am now simply relying (for the first time) on the prospect of a really wintery Christmas with plenty of snow. Whoopee!

With this in mind, I am already looking forward very much to the programme over the Christmas period and I have assembled a couple of suggestions and tips for you:

24.12. – Skiing

We have a tradition in my close circle of friends: We meet up on 24.12. at 8.25 (!) hrs at the Space Jets car park in Flachau. Firstly it is a super opportunity to spend a couple of pleasant hours with my friends at Christmas and incidentally to cruise down the piste, and secondly it hugely reduces the time waiting for the evening of Christmas Eve. J Our day’s skiing is not complete without a brief break including a portion of chips and Manner Schnitten wafer biscuits.

By the way, for me the best hot chocolate is in the Waldgasthof in Flachau – there it is prepared on request with milk, and tastes just like Grannie’s cocoa.

And for all glühwein fans: the glühwein in the Gipfelstadl in Wagrain right by the Flying Mozart mountain station is unbeatable.

25.12. – Après Ski

In the meantime it must surely have been spread about in the whole Ski amadé community: 25.12. is the unofficial Après ski day of the year for all the locals in Flachau. This day is by far the liveliest Après ski day of the whole season, when lots of familiar faces drink a toast in “Willi” pear schnapps to Christmas. Many people go straight to the Dampfkessel or the Hofstadl after the skiing, whilst others drink the toast after the family meal.

26.12. – Ski amadé MADE MY DAY Experience day

From this season the most varied Experience Days can be booked in Ski amadé, definitely providing real “WOW“ moments.

The idea behind it: To have as many and such exciting experiences in one day’s skiing as others don’t even get in a full week’s skiing holiday. After the above-mentioned weather and snow forecasts I am personally hoping for a “Rise and Shine Powder Day“ in Zauchensee with Peter Walchhofer. After brunch at the Gamskogelhütte he will show anyone his favourite freeride slopes on the Gamskogel. At the end there are tips and a video analysis.

Quite cool, wouldn’t you say? Further information at https://www.skiamade.com/en/Experience-Ski-amade/Made-my-day.
