Summer holidays in the Grossarl Valley
With its municipalities of Hüttschlag and Grossarl, the Grossarl Valley's nickname of the Valley of the Alms is well deserved. Nowhere else in the province of Salzburg is there a valley more deserving of that title.
There are around 40 pasture huts (Alms) for hikers to indulge in along the approx. 400 km of marked hiking trails and 140 km of signposted mountain bike routes complete with home made delicacies.
While tranquillity still dominates the valley, the Alpine herdsmen and dairymen still have plenty to do up at the pasture huts.
They make fresh butter and wonderful cheese from the delicious milk. Locally smoked bacon, fresh farmhouse bread and sausages are also served. One speciality is the sour cheese that is typical of the valley – a type of grey cheese that is only made here in the valley. And of course, a shot of the famous Selber Brennt'n schnapps is not to be missed. Enjoy the taste of the Salzburg alpine summer and warm hospitality at the pasture huts in the Grossarl Valley.
