The Graukogel is well known for its particular beautiful and ancient stand of stone pines. Many of the trees are 250-300 years old.

Graukogel - The wonder of stone pines – good for the heart

 "Stone Pine Magic" (Zirbenzauber) on the Graukogel. The stand of pines situated next to the top station on the leisure hiking mountain in Bad Gastein amid idyllic scenery with incredible views, are two to three hundred years and somewhat unique. 

"We want to give our guests a totally new experience with stone pines to touch, smell, taste and drink" says Schafflinger, Chief Executive Officer of Gasteiner Bergbahnen AG. For this purpose, an initial step involved creating the Stone Pine Trail (Zirbenweg) – a circular trail starting and ending at the Graukogel Lift top station.

Summer operation Graukogelbahn 2018:

  • Pre-season:

from 3rd June onwards (Sunday - Tuesday)

  • Main season:

16th June - 30th September (daily operation)


Operation time: first ascent 8.30 a.m. until 4.00 p.m., in June and September at every top of the hour (If rain in the morning no operation) Last descent: 16.15 pm & from 17th June - 23rd September 4.45 pm

Standard rate for sections 1 and 2:

  • Adults: € 25.50 ascent AND descent
  • Children: € 13.00 ascent AND descent
  • Gastein-Card: € 22.00
