Dachstein

The Dachstein, the highest mountain in Styria, impresses with its unparalleled natural scenery. Already the ascent with the panorama gondola of the Dachstein Glacier gondola is a unique experience. After a six-minute drive you will find yourself in a natural paradise, far away from everyday life, surrounded by the rugged cliffs of the Dachstein massif with a view over Austria's mountain peaks.

At the latest on arrival at the Dachstein Glacier, at an altitude of 2,700 m above sea level, the impressive mountain world provides unforgettable moments. Even UNESCO has included the Dachstein/Hallstatt-Salzkammergut region in its list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites - a distinction of the highest international standing.

Longing for snow, and no winter in sight yet? Then visit us at the Dachstein glacier. From autumn to spring, with the right snow conditions, fantastic slopes for beginners and connoisseurs await you. Flat slopes inclined to the north guarantee ideal snow conditions. Freeriders also get their money's worth. Whether skiing, cross-country skiing or ski touring - all those who can't get enough of the white gold are just right at the Dachstein Glacier at 2,700 m.

Sky walk & Stairway to nothingness

The spectacular viewing platform Dachstein Sky Walk, directly next to the mountain station of the gondola, not only provides an unforgettable view with its glass floor, but also a breathtaking deep view! Directly under your feet stretches the 250 meter vertically sloping rock face of the Hunerkogel, which otherwise can only be climbed via the via ferrata. On cloudless days you can see from the Sky Walk to the Hohe Tauern and as far as Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

Not only the Dachstein Sky Walk provides the ultimate thrill, but also the Dachstein Suspension Bridge offers you breathtaking moments with the "Stairway to Nothingness". Austria's highest suspension bridge with connection to the Dachstein Ice Palace is an attraction not to be missed. If you dare to go on the suspension bridge, your gaze falls on the 400 m deep rocks of the Dachstein mountain range below you. At the other end of the suspension bridge you then have the opportunity to stand on the "Stairway to Nothingness". Here you have the unique feeling of floating freely in the air and still being safe. In addition, the "Stairway to Nothingness" is your ideal photo point!

Ice palace

After the high altitude you can visit the Dachstein ice palace. Here a mystical world of ice and snow awaits you deep inside the glacier. The current exhibition "Journey through Europe" shows well-known European sights and typical attractions of the countries. Among other things, you can marvel at the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel, the Brandenburg Gate or the Eiffel Tower. The ice sculptures were made from natural glacial ice and up to 5 tons of clarified industrial ice. The Ice Palace is only a three-minute walk from the Dachstein Glacier gondola mountain station and is open to visitors every day.

Dachstein

The Dachstein not only convinces with fantastic natural snow slopes for skiers and snowboarders, but also with perfectly prepared cross-country ski runs. These are regarded as international training centres for cross-country skiers, biathletes and Nordic combined skiers. On peak days in autumn, up to 700 athletes from more than 25 nations can be found here. In addition to the world elite, there are also many hobby athletes on the panoramic cross-country ski run. You can enjoy up to 18 km of perfectly groomed cross-country trails in the centre of an unforgettable mountain scenery.

The Dachstein crossing is popular with locals and guests alike. It is one of the classic, large ski crossings of the Alps and can usually be made in late winter and spring. Austria's National Ski Tour is the most spectacular way to "experience" the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site Dachstein. The descent leads on a 25 km long route from the Dachstein summit regions via the Simonyhütte and Gjaidalm down to the Hallstätter See 2,200 m below. There are Planai buses from Obertraun to Schladming to get back to the Dachstein Valley Station without any problems.
