In winter, when the cold mountain air of the Schladminger Tauern whips across your face outside, the smell of homemade Kaiserschmarren wafting over from the Schafalm lures you inside the cozy hut. The friendly staff there do their part to guarantee a perfect break before your next run down the Planai. In the winter months, the Schafalm is also home to a number of woolly four-legged creatures, "Valais blacknose sheep" who spend the winter in the adjacent barn (which you are also invited to peek inside), before returning to the lush green alpine meadows of the Planai in summer. An absolute highlight at the Schafalm, especially for younger guests.
Enjoy the deep snow covered Gastein Valley on a sleigh, accompanied by the sounds of bells, that quietly jingle to the rhythm of the horses – this being the original winter pleasure in Gastein.
The snowshoe walks are offered by the local sports equipment shop Sport Rettensteiner in Forstau. The snowshoe walks take you to places you would never be able to reach on skis.
