Are you familiar with the following situation? The air is freezing cold, and with every exhale a little cloud forms in front of your face – that’s when winter shows its true colours. A thick blanket of snow covers the mountain pastures and slopes.
The snow gently crunches underneath your feet and the sun is shining from the sky. Perfect conditions for a snowshoe hike after an eventful ski day in the wondrous world of Ski amadé! 

The route network branching out in all directions at the five regions lets you enter a breathtaking alpine setting that will have you in awe. What an amazing alternative to skiing or snowboarding! With snowshoes strapped to your feet, you’ll head out into the powder snow. Because once you’ve put them on, there’s no holding back in the snow! Time to explore the mountains of Styria and the Salzburger Land region step by step.

Your snowshoe experience in ski amadé

Brain: off; fresh air: in! That’s one of best experiences when ambitious snowshoe hikers wade through pristine natural landscapes. It’s the perfect sport to clear your head and fill your lungs with fresh mountain air. 

A total of five regions can be explored on foot: from the Salzburger Sportwelt to Schladming-Dachstein, Gastein, the Hochkönig and Grossarl Valley. And at every resort, beautiful snowshoe routes await winter sports enthusiasts. 

On the Loosbühelalm  in Grossarl at 1,769 metres above sea level, in Filzmoos, in Flachau or in Gastein: The snowshoe routes are accessible for everyone. You don’t have the right equipment at hand? There are sports rentals  at every village where you can rent your snowshoes.

The most beautiful snowshoe routes …

… await you in the Salzburger Sportwelt: Ten routes have snowshoe hikers flocking to the beautiful Salzburger Land region every year. As a participant of a guided tour or on your own: Walking through the powder snow is an absolute highlight either way.

… await you in Schladming-Dachstein: In the Untertal, in the Obertal or towards the Rossfeld: You can hike over the glistening snow cover on the routes along the toboggan runs or cross-country. Your constant companions: the sun and a smile on your face. 

… await you in Gastein: 18 different routes with a total of 60 kilometres: From the Elisabeth Promenade to the mountain station on the Stubnerkogel and the snowshoe trail in Dorfgastein, you can choose from a number of exciting options. 

… await you in the Hochkönig region: The educational snowshoe trail leads winter hikers through a winter wonderland on the Hochkönig – accompanied by a guide. 

… await you in Grossarltal: Equipped with snowshoes and poles, you’ll be hiking past snow-covered trees, bizarre looking rock formations, and you just might see a deer. Tip: Keep your eyes peeled during your hike through nature!

The Wengeralm is located directly on the ski slopes in the Gastein Valley at 1,650 m and offers guests a spacious restaurant, a cozy bar and a sun terrace. In the summer, right in the walking area near the middle station of the summit lift Fulseck located, it is a popular destination for hikers and families.

Our cozy parlor with an open fireplace and comfortable seating invites you to spend sociable evenings.

Culinary delights with regional delicacies during the Ski and Wine Enjoyment Week from March 11th to 18th, 2023

You should definitely not miss out on the regional dishes of the Wengeralm menu.

  • "Brettljause" wit beef and sausages by Hutegger from Bad Hofgastein and Urban from St. Johann im Pongau and also home made products.
  • Baked potatoes (Roman Schmidt from lower austria) classico wit salad from marchfeld

From the terrace, the view of the Steinerne Meer with the Hochkönig is a feast for the eyes. At only 950 m above sea level, we offer hikers and cyclists a snack, warm home cooking and home-made pastries in summer. In the winter, we offer hearty and regional mountain food for lunch and dinner. Parking available, directly at the hut.

    Either fresh doughnuts from our Marianne or regional delicacies from the kitchen, there is something for everyone. The matching wines are provided by Karl Daschl from the Kamptal. From Grüner Veltliner light & fresh to the powerful NEXT LEVEL.

Highest farmer's market in the Alps

During the farmer's market week from 11th until 18th March, 2023 daily specials with traditional dishes are offered.

On Sunday, March 12th the big farmers market takes place – fresh meat donuts and a large number of market stalls are provided.

Our highlights:

  • Bread by Fiedlerhof
  • Wood by the wood working shop Schrempf
  • Schnapps & liqueurs from Obstbau Brandl
  • Ennstaler potatoes from family Gerl

The rest of the week, more products will be sold at a smaller stand.

Wolke 7

The Mountainrestaurant Wolke 7 is at the top of the Kieserlbahn Grossarltal on 1.942 m.

Die Zachhofalm lädt zum Entspannen, Aufwärmen und Genießen in uriger und gemütlicher Atmosphäre ein. Direkt an der Zachhofalmbahn bzw. Piste gelegen.

The Zapfenhütte is located at 1320 m above sea level directly at the mountain station of the 8-seater Hochbrand cable car. The cozy parlor with an open fireplace and the sun terrace invite you to take a break.

Die Zapferlalm ist die perfekte Alm für Ihren Einkehrschwung! Direkt an der Kabinenbahn Kings Cab gelegen.

Mit guter Stimmung und Produkten aus der eigenen Landwirtschaft lockt der Zirbenwirt ins Tal. Aber Achtung, wer gewagt hat eine der erst beschriebenen Leckerei auszulassen, bekommt keinen Burger vom eigenen Angus oder Kalliste Rind! Kleiner Scherz, natürlich steht dieses Highlight allen zu.
