When the longest day meets the shortest night, summer in the alpine world is greeted in a spectacular way. For it is then that we see our mountains lit up by flames – including right here in Gastein valley.
Gastein is known for maintaining old traditions and customs. Every year at the summer solstice, numerous mountain fires are lit – this year on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Locals hike up the mountains to light their bonfires and celebrate the longest day and the shortest night of the year. As soon as it gets dark, chains of lights stretch over the mountain peaks and fascinating fire symbols emerge. A particularly great view can be experienced on the 360° panoramic mountain Stubnerkogel at 2,300 meters in Bad Gastein.
