In winter, when the cold mountain air of the Schladminger Tauern whips across your face outside, the smell of homemade Kaiserschmarren wafting over from the Schafalm lures you inside the cozy hut. The friendly staff there do their part to guarantee a perfect break before your next run down the Planai. In the winter months, the Schafalm is also home to a number of woolly four-legged creatures, "Valais blacknose sheep" who spend the winter in the adjacent barn (which you are also invited to peek inside), before returning to the lush green alpine meadows of the Planai in summer. An absolute highlight at the Schafalm, especially for younger guests.

A focus of our ski rental area: ski rent on the top. The ski rental department offers you alpine and freestyle skis, snowboards, top quality ski boots and snowboard boots. And in summer we have mountain and e-bikes. Especially practical is our depot service. After an action packed ski or bike day, you can deposit your equipment here and collect it again the next day.

You will always get good advice from our ski rental experts. They will help you choose the right equipment for your ability, make sure you have the correct binding setting and ensure a perfect boot fitting. Sparkling snow crystals as far as the eye can reach. Enjoy powder skiing at its best in the Dachstein glacier ski area, that is, unsurprisingly, also called 'Austria's ski touring Eldorado'. There are countless ski mountaineering tours, steep downhills, ski routes and freerides from and to the Dachstein plateau.

The most spectacular freeride run is the 'Edelgrieß', quite a challenge for even experienced mountaineers. 

At the hut descent, the small alpine village in the middle of the ski area offers well-known good cuisine and overnight accommodation.

Insgesamt 16 Skitouren, Steilabfahrten und Übergänge können von Ramsau am Dachstein bzw. ab der Bergstation der Dachstein Gletscherbahn befahren werden. Darunter auch Österreichs National-Skitour, die Dachsteinüberquerung nach Hallstatt. Diese Tour zählt zu den beliebtesten Touren in den Alpen und sind nicht allzu schwer. Auf einer 25 Kilometer langen Route von den Gipfelregionen des Dachsteins über die Simonyhütte und Gjaidalm führt die Tour hinab zum 2.000 m tiefer gelegenen Hallstätter See.
