A visit to the market, on skis

Anyone who skis is due a break every so often. After all, taking a break in the mountain lodge is just as much a part of a day's skiing as waxing your skis. Regional delicacies, Austrian wines and magnificent pistes await gourmets in Austria's greatest ski paradise.

Here a piece of cheese, there delicious venison salami, a bit further on excellent schnapps and at the end a little something to eat and drink. A visit to the market always offers plenty of opportunities. One discovers new products and here and there can taste what is on offer. It is a particularly attractive feature of a farmers’ market in Austria. And high up in the mountains at the ski lodges it is simply awesome.

The highest farmers’ market in the Alps will be the highlight of the Skiing and Wine Enjoyment Week from 10 to 17 March 2018. Anyone who is planning a break over this period at one of the designated Skiing and Wine Enjoyment lodges is turning the brief stop into a visit to a market.

Where the farmer delivers directly to the highest market for skiers

After two successful seasons, the highest farmer’s market in the Alps has been extended for the 2017/18 winter season. Local farmers sell their own products from the market stands at the mountain huts. This initiative is justifiably
called the “highest farmer’s market in the Alps,“ with the highest market stands being at 2,700 metres above sea level, these being on the Dachstein glacier and at the Panoramic dome in Sportgastein. This season, the farmer’s market will run for
a whole week. The market stands in ski amadé are open from the 10th to the 17th of March.

Here you will find the program.

Ski-In farmers’ market at the ski Hut

At the stalls (or stall) at the lodges the wide range of traditional, homeproduced products will be on offer: various kinds of cheese, farmhouse bacon, venison salami, alpine herb teas, homemade bilberry jam, brandies and much more.

The market visitor on skis can also even have a tasting at some stalls: Plattlkrapfen with sauerkraut, perhaps, or real Pinzgauer Kasnocken.

A drive-in farmers’ market. And so one samples one’s way through the specialities of the region – from savoury to sweet and from heavily to lightly seasoned.

The regional producers are on the spot at the market stalls and are happy to explain the origin and special features of their produce. Here you will find regional producers
