The small, idyllic and hospitable Verwöhnhotel Sonnhof I Vitus Winkler is run by Eva-Maria and Vitus Winkler. Grandmother Fanny started the hotel on the sunny Salzburg plateau in 1928, where it swiftly gained in popularity. Sonnhof lies in the middle of the Pongau district, 60 km south of Salzburg, a region well known as the sunniest part of the country. Chef Vitus’ combines a down-to-earth approach with creativity and flare. The individually styled guest rooms are comfortable and lovingly furnished. Relax in the spa with stunning views over the surrounding mountains. St. Veit is ideal for active summer or skiing holidays, with about 800 km of ski slopes and countless cycling routes and hiking trails in the vicinity.

Host information

At the Genuss Hotel Sonnhof in St. Veit, we look back on a rich history; the Sonnhof was built by my great-grandmother in 1928.

Since 2012, Vitus Winkler, together with his wife Eva-Maria (and Vitus junior & Malia), has been running the Sonnhof. In keeping with the family spirit, they preserve the small and fine aspects – indeed, what makes the Sonnhof so special – despite a thorough modernization in 2016 & 2020.

From Salzburg on the A10 Tauernautobahn drive south in the direction Villach about 55 km to the exit Bischofshofen / St. Johann. Then take the B311 federal road past Bischofshofen and continue for another 9 km to the St. Veit im Pongau exit.
