The Pongau Regional Association of Local History Societies was founded in 1926 by Schorsch Windhofer the Elder and Dr Cassio Castelpietra. They set themselves the task of preserving traditional dress, folk songs, folk music, folk dance, the Schuhplattler, customs and the local dialect in Pongau, and passing these on to future generations. Furthermore, they wished to support the Pongau associations in their work and thereby further develop Pongau customs in all localities.
The Regional Association of Pongau Heritage Societies will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026.
To mark this occasion, a grand anniversary celebration will take place in St. Johann on Sunday, 14 June 2026.
Programme:
- Ceremony marking 100 years of the Pongau Local History Associations
- Grand parade
- Closing celebrations in the marquee with the ‘Stürmischen Böhmischen’
