A gentle winter sport at austria's greatest ski paradise

Are you familiar with the following situation? The air is freezing cold, and with every exhale a little cloud forms in front of your face – that’s when winter shows its true colours. A thick blanket of snow covers the mountain pastures and slopes.
The snow gently crunches underneath your feet and the sun is shining from the sky. Perfect conditions for a snowshoe hike after an eventful ski day in the wondrous world of Ski amadé!

The route network branching out in all directions at the five regions lets you enter a breathtaking alpine setting that will have you in awe. What an amazing alternative to skiing or snowboarding! With snowshoes strapped to your feet, you’ll head out into the powder snow. Because once you’ve put them on, there’s no holding back in the snow! Time to explore the mountains of Styria and the Salzburger Land region step by step.

Let go, relax and let your mind wander!

Your snowshoe experience in ski amadé

Brain: off; fresh air: in! That’s one of best experiences when ambitious snowshoe hikers wade through pristine natural landscapes. It’s the perfect sport to clear your head and fill your lungs with fresh mountain air.

A total of five regions can be explored on foot: from the Salzburger Sportwelt to Schladming-Dachstein, Gastein, the Hochkönig and Grossarl Valley. And at every resort, beautiful snowshoe routes await winter sports enthusiasts.

On the Loosbühelalm  in Grossarl at 1,769 metres above sea level, in Filzmoos, in Flachau or in Gastein: The snowshoe routes are accessible for everyone. You don’t have the right equipment at hand? There are sports rentals  at every village where you can rent your snowshoes.

The most beautiful snowshoe routes …

… await you in the Salzburger Sportwelt: Ten routes have snowshoe hikers flocking to the beautiful Salzburger Land region every year. As a participant of a guided tour or on your own: Walking through the powder snow is an absolute highlight either way.

… await you in Schladming-Dachstein: In the Untertal, in the Obertal or towards the Rossfeld: You can hike over the glistening snow cover on the routes along the toboggan runs or cross-country. Your constant companions: the sun and a smile on your face.

… await you in Gastein: 18 different routes with a total of 60 kilometres: From the Elisabeth Promenade to the mountain station on the Stubnerkogel and the snowshoe trail in Dorfgastein, you can choose from a number of exciting options.

… await you in the Hochkönig region: The educational snowshoe trail leads winter hikers through a winter wonderland on the Hochkönig – accompanied by a guide.

… await you in Grossarltal: Become one with nature and walk with snowshoes and telescopic poles through the snow-covered winter landscape - past bizarre snow-dusted trees and impressive views. You might spot a shy deer here and there. Tip: Be vigilant and keep your eyes open when walking through nature. Avoid feeding game and pay attention to the ‘Respect your limits’ signs! Guided snowshoe hikes as part of the offer from www.berg-gesund.at - free of charge for guests of Berg-Gesund member businesses.

Ski & Wine Enjoyment Week from 14th to 21st March, 2026

From 14th to 21st of March 2026, the Kogelalm is all about "Wine & Enjoyment".

We celebrate everything. Especially nature. It is our north star. Gives the direction. It is our inspiration for things big and small. That's why all our burgers, cocktails and every minute in the Dorfdisco 2.0 contain a lot of Hochkönig, a lot of character, real enjoyment and no half measures. No Nature. No Party.

Our Burgerlab
is the place where inspiration happens between two buns. So to speak. Here we celebrate the diversity of our surroundings and all the great things between Hochkönig and Dachegghof. And that's what we bring from there onto the plates and into the hands.

Village Disco 2.0
Our drink creations are just as diverse and generous as our surroundings. What they have in common, however, is nature, the Hochkönig and the fact that they really celebrate the beautiful life. Come and celebrate life with us. And nature. Because it makes our burgers and everything around them possible in the first place.

We serve – you enjoy. Today and forever!

Ski & Wine Enjoyment Week from 14th to 21st March, 2026

During the skiing and wine tasting week from March 14 to 21, 2026, we offer our guests at König & Kuh some special highlights.

Kröllalm

Aberg 27, 5761 Maria Alm

The traditional restaurant "Kreistenalm" is located at the top station of the 6-men chairlift Gernkogelbahn, on the slope to the valley. The family run alpine hut offers traditional dishes with full service.

A comfortable rest belongs to skiing, ideal at the Kröllalm. Whether in the office at the tiled stove or on the beautiful sun terrace with stunning views over the Saalfelden basin, you will feel at home. We serve specialties from our own farm, as well as mushrooms from the local forests. Also apple and cheese strudel are homemade.

Daniel Mairamhof, the innkeeper, has wholeheartedly specialised on local produce and selected wines. Hence, it is for a good reason that the hut 'Krummholzhütte' has become Austria's  '1. Genusshütte' and it has been presented the award "Europe's most popular ski hut 2013 & 2011".

Many celebrity guests come together here, as, for instance, for the event "Schneegenuss mit Haubenkoch Johann Lafer!" (delicacies with top chef Johann Laferl) or for the shooting of Hansi Hinterseer's "Wintertraum in Schladming"!

Dreaming at 1.800 metres above sea level
At the "Krummholzhütte', you can also stay overnight!

Recommendations

  • Ennstal valley bread soup – seved in a jar
  • Roast Lamb (Hauser Kaibling Alpine lamb) with vegetables and potatoes
  • Best 'Kaiserschmarr'n' with apple sauce! (Austrian style pancake)
  • Typical drink: selected wines

The Kühberg Alm is a traditional Salzburg wooden hut in the bottom station of the Grafenberg Lift where skiers and guests can be spoiled all day long. We offer traditional Austrian home cooking, a different midday set menu every day and there is always plenty of choice: something warm from the soup bowl, various salads, baked potatoes, specialities of the region, pasta dishes and, of course, our homemade Austrian cakes and desserts.

The extensive evening menu offers specialities such as local beef, fresh fish in Mediterranean style, spare ribs and a wide range of desserts.
... but the best thing to do would be to have a look for yourself!

The Laireiter Alm is located at 1,850 m directly next to the Grossarltal panorama station. It offers space for 300 to 350 people in the interior. When the weather is fine, up to 500 people can enjoy the sun on our spacious terrace.

The Landgasthof Bertahof in Bad Hofgastein has been located amidst the old trees and in the heart of the Gastein Valley for over 350 years. This family-run and cozy restaurant has an extraordinary reputation! Enjoy and feel good: that is the maxim for Bertahof guests.

The Bertahof is listed in Gault Millau and has received the award "very good cuisine that offers more than the everyday" since 2009.

Above all, the lamb, mostly from our own breeding, or the fresh fish from our own pond, make a visit to the Bertahof a culinary experience. Chef Robert Granitzer only uses fresh, seasonal products from the region.

The culinary offer ranges from creatively prepared regional specialties to Mediterranean delicacies and international classics.

The Bertahof has been awarded the AMA gastro seal for the use of products from surrounding regions and from Austria.
