Vegetarian and vegan on the mountain

Only schnitzel and grilled sausages on the menu? The numerous huts in Ski amadé prove that vegetarian and vegan refreshments are also possible on the mountain. In each of the five regions, the selection of dishes without Tyrolean products is growing. Today we are in the Schladming-Dachstein region and below you will find my top favourites on the Hauser Kaibling.

More and more skiers are giving up meat or animal products on the mountain. Whether for the sake of the environment or your own health, meat-free days are worthwhile. The offer on the mountain has also adapted to this development. Where five years ago only schnitzel was on the menu, today there is a small selection of dishes that do not contain animal products. We look forward to delicious vegetable curry, vegan apple strudel or pumpkin cream soup without animal products!

Definition:
vegetarian = dishes that do not contain meat/fish
vegan = food that does not contain any animal products (meat/fish/egg/honey/milk)

TOMiziel

A top insider tip for vegetarians and vegans is the TOMiziel on the Hauser Kaibling. Over 100 years of ski hut tradition, yet modern and customised to the wishes of the guests. Vegetarian hearts beat faster with Styrian cheese bread, cheese dumplings and spinach spaetzle with cheese sauce and sun-dried tomatoes. Vegans can feast on vegetable wok in a rice ring and veggie pancakes, a pasta pan with vegetables and paprika-tomato sauce. We definitely recommend the two vegan dishes and the 360-degree view at 1800 metres above sea level!

KRUMMHOLZHÜTTE

Right next to the TOMiziel is the next stop for all "plant based" gourmets. The Krummholzhütte delights with its diverse range of modern and traditional recipes. For starters, vegans can enjoy a cream of pumpkin soup with grissini. The main course is a vegan vegetable curry with coconut, ginger, chilli and basmati rice. If you still haven't had enough and want to enjoy a dessert, you're sure to find what you're looking for with the vegan apple strudel.
Vegetarians won't miss out either; cheese dumplings with a strong cheese mixture and roasted onions, a colourful salad bowl with diced sheep's cheese and seed oil, blackberry Kaiserschmarren, apple strudel and blueberry dumplings are all on the culinary menu.

DU & I

Vegetarian hearts also beat faster at the Du & I Alm on Hauser Kaibling: backed potato with sour cream, cheese dumplings with Styrian cheese and coleslaw, as well as spinach and sheep's cheese pancakes with leaf salad.

If you're so hungry you can't make it to the three top favourites, a portion of chips or salad at any mountain hut is of course always an option.
(But they won't beat cream of pumpkin soup and vegan apple strudel by a long way!) ;)

Enjoy your meal and let me know what your favourite huts in Ski amadé are for vegan and vegetarian food!
