    Enjoyable glacier experiences

    Dachstein Glacier Restaurant

Directly at the mountain station of the Dachstein Glacier Railway, you’ll find the modern Dachstein Glacier Restaurant. With around 220 seats, it offers plenty of space for guests who want to dine in a cosy atmosphere.

Natural materials such as wood, stone and loden give the restaurant a welcoming charm that perfectly complements the impressive 280-degree panorama. On the spacious, wind-protected sun terrace, there are another 120 seats available – ideal for enjoying the spectacular view.

A special highlight: the border between the federal states of Styria and Upper Austria runs right through the restaurant.

Hearty or sweet, substantial or light – there’s something here for every taste. From regional specialties and varied daily dishes to snacks and traditional snack platters, everything is in place for a delicious break.

    Hiking paradise Dachstein

Dachstein Glacier also offers the perfect backdrop for unique glacier hikes. Whether it’s a snow walk to Seethaler Hut, enjoying the spectacular panorama on the adventure trail to Kleiner Gjaidstein, or taking a guided tour across the alpine glacier area, hiking enthusiasts will get their money’s worth.

Alpine region Dachstein: The car park at the valley station of the cable car is also a good starting point for hikes across the alpine pastures. In the alpine region at up to 1,900 m, you can hike on gentle trails or steeper paths all the way to the vertically rising rock faces of the southern Dachstein walls.

    The glacier highlight of Styria

The ride up in the panoramic gondola of the Dachstein Glacier Railway is an experience in itself. The Dachstein massif seems close enough to touch. Once you arrive at 2,700 metres at the completely renewed mountain station, the wonder never stops. “Take a deep breath and feel the energy of the mountain world” – the newly created viewing platforms & attractions around the mountain station invite you to recharge:

    • Sky Ladder: 12 steps up to a glass platform with a breathtaking view of the Dachstein
    • Stairway to Nothingness: 14 narrow steps for the ultimate view down and far away
    • Suspension bridge: Austria’s highest suspension bridge promises thrills with a view
    • Skywalk: breathtaking views of the Hohe Tauern and as far as Slovenia and the Czech Republic
    • Dachstein Ice Palace with a new exhibition & ice sculptures
    • Digital binoculars with a view of Koppenkarstein
    • Engagement Spot for the perfect selfie with a Dachstein view
    • Art object “Energy Crystal” near the mountain station

    Attractions around the mountain station

Directly at the Dachstein Glacier Railway is the Dachstein Sky Walk. The platform, at 2,700 metres above sea level, offers a panoramic view of the alpine mountain scenery and is among the most spectacular viewing platforms in the Alps. The Dachstein suspension bridge – Austria’s highest suspension bridge – creates unforgettable memories with a sweeping view across the Alps. For the brave, the “Stairway to Nothingness” delivers a feeling of pure freedom, letting guests seem to “float” above the rocks. In the Dachstein Ice Palace, guests can discover a mystical world of ice and snow deep inside the glacier. At the moment, the exhibition “Up into the Mountains” can be visited.
