    Hiking for explorers

    Gastein

    600 kilometres of hiking trails lead to over 60 mountain huts, up to the highest grass-covered mountain in Europe, and straight into the Hohe Tauern National Park. Here, hikers can not only discover stunning natural landscapes, but also the valley’s rich mining history, two thermal spas and three towns each with their own unique cultural character.

    Tip: The Gastein long-distance hiking trail, the ‘Gastein Trail’: 87 kilometres and 4,513 metres of elevation gain over 7 daily stages

    Good for body and soul: herb walks

    Hochkönig

    From ribwort plantain to arnica: are you a real herb expert who knows all about the special healing properties of the local flora? In the Hochkönig region, nature lovers will find regional plants in abundance during the alpine summer. At the 13 herbal alpine huts, local herbs are used not only in food and drink, but also in many other soothing herbal products. You can explore these on a hike using a collection pass.

    Tip: One or two of the alpine hut owners are sure to let you in on a new insider tip regarding juices, ointments and herbal spreads!

    In Search of Delight

    Großarltal

    When enjoying a leisurely hike in the Großarl Valley, 40 charming and cosy huts offer places to rest for keen walkers. They are drawn not only by the scent of flowering mountain meadows, the crystal-clear mountain lakes and the impressive mountain panorama of the Hohe Tauern. Above all, the tempting aromas wafting from the huts spur hikers on towards a delicious Brettljause.
