    Summer in the Gastein Valley

Gastein is located in the Salzburger Land, nestled in the mountain world of the High Tauern and on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The three places Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein combine nature, activity, health and culture into a varied summer holiday.

When the snow melts, the mountains, side valleys and natural gems of the Gastein Valley show their green side. Hiking trails lead to scenic viewpoints, serviced huts and special mountain experiences. At the same time, the world-famous thermal springs and two spas provide soothing relaxation after active hours in nature.

Four modern cable cars take you comfortably up to the region's adventure mountains in summer. There you will find a suspension bridge, via ferratas, a Swiss pine themed trail, family attractions and hikes with wonderful views, among other things.

    Summer lifts in Gastein

The mountain lifts in Gastein take you comfortably up to the region's most beautiful summer experiences. On the Schlossalm, hiking, rock and family activities take centre stage. Circular trails lead around Schlossalmsee, mystical rock figures are waiting to be discovered, and several via ferratas offer sporting challenges. For children, there is a playground with large bouncy cushions, a Guerilla slide and more. The motor skills trail with 20 stations trains coordination, balance and dexterity.

At Stubnerkogel, it is all about views and courage. The 140-metre-long suspension bridge at 2,300 metres above sea level is one of the most impressive mountain experiences. There is also the panoramic view from the Felsenweg viewing platform and the Fun Center for families with children.

The Graukogel is particularly well known for its population of Swiss pines. Near the mountain station, you will find trees that are up to 300 years old. A circular trail invites you to experience the Swiss pines with all your senses: feel them, smell them and taste them.

At Fulseck in Dorfgastein, mountain experiences focus on movement and variety. Between Dorfgastein and Grossarltal, summer mountain lifts make for relaxed outings. Whether swing chairs for hikers and bikers or oversized sky swings: here, the summer day feels light and playful. Spiegelsee, a forest playground, themed trails and a viewing platform offer experiences for young and old. For sporting variety, there is a ride with the Mountaincart or the Singletrail Grossarltal.

    Hiking in Gastein

Gastein offers around 600 kilometres of hiking trails in summer. The routes lead through the mountain world of the High Tauern, into diverse side valleys, to viewpoints and to serviced huts.

If you want to stay out longer, you can explore the entire Gastein Valley on the Gastein Trail. For more relaxed days, the circular hiking trails on the adventure mountains are ideal, for example around Schlossalmsee or on the Graukogel with its Swiss pine trail.

The summer lifts make the start of your hiking day especially relaxed. They take you quickly to higher altitudes and open up many possibilities: from family-friendly trails to more challenging tours and via ferrata adventures.

On the Schlossalm, the children's playground, large bouncy cushions, the Guerilla slide, mystical rock figures and the motor skills trail provide active hours with children. At Stubnerkogel, the suspension bridge, the Felsenweg and the Fun Center await. At Fulseck, a forest playground, Spiegelsee, themed trails and sky swings invite you to explore together.

Sporty families will also find suitable offers. Via ferratas on the Schlossalm and Mountaincart at Fulseck bring extra activity to your holiday day. This means you can shape your summer in Gastein according to your family's age, courage and energy.

    Cuisine and huts

If you are out and about in Gastein, you will find many places to stop for a break on the mountain. More than 60 serviced huts offer culinary delights and make hikes, family outings and mountain days even more enjoyable.

Whether as a stop after a bike tour, a destination for a relaxed hike or a break between two mountain experiences: the huts are part of a summer holiday in Gastein. Here, views, regional cuisine and genuine relaxation come together.
