The family and adventure mountain in Bad Hofgastein

Here you can hike scenic circular trails around Schlossalmsee, look for the rock creatures, and tackle a variety of via ferratas. For children, there is a playground close to the mountain station. It comes with a large bouncy pillow, a guerilla slide, a crawl tunnel, and much more.

At 2,050 m above sea level, a great slackline course has been created for children and adults. Slacklining is similar to tightrope walking and requires a mix of concentration, coordination, and balance. Along the circular trails around Schlossalmsee, there is something surprising to discover: animal rock creatures. If you hike with your eyes open and look closely, you may spot one of the silhouettes hidden in nature in the shape of a rock animal, such as an eagle or a shark.

New family playground

At the top station

From July 2026, a new mountain experience awaits families, children and active guests on the Schlossalm. Right next to the Schlossalmbahn mountain station, a spacious playground is being created with water features, motor skills elements, panoramic swings and alpine play ideas. It is the perfect way to combine fresh mountain air, active moments and wide-open views of the Gastein mountains.

The new Schlossalm playground is located directly beside the “Hirsch & Maus” mountain restaurant at around 2,000 metres above sea level. This makes a family day out especially easy: short distances, plenty of space to explore and a relaxing place to stop for a bite right next door.

Climbing at the Schlossalm

If you like sports, you can choose from various via ferratas. There are now 8 via ferratas of all difficulty levels on the Schlossalm. Beginners who do not yet feel confident on real via ferratas can train on the practice via ferrata. You can also test or improve your skills on guided via ferrata tours offered by the alpine school. In addition, climbing enthusiasts can really let off steam at the climbing garden.
