Gastein ski region

The Gastein ski region consists of four varied ski areas, more than 200 kilometers of slopes and modern lift facilities. This makes the region ideal for families and ambitious skiers. Between Dorfgastein, Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein, you will also find long descents, invigorating leisure activities and relaxing health offerings.

Skiing in the Gastein ski region

In winter, the Gastein Valley turns into a spacious winter sports area with varied options for skiers and snowboarders. The ski areas range from 860 to around 2,650 meters above sea level, making them among the highest areas in Ski amadé.

Wide carving runs, sporty descents and freeride opportunities offer the right terrain for every ability level. Modern mountain railways take you directly from the town centers to the slopes and make for comfortable ski days with impressive views of the surrounding mountains.

    Winter enjoyment & cuisine

A day of skiing in Gastein also becomes a special experience thanks to the culinary offers. Throughout the winter, the Gasteiner Skihauben serve guests on six ski huts with six different gourmet dishes for under 20 euros per dish.

At Markt:Abend, held four times in January, the products of local farmers are turned into starters, main courses and desserts in the small huts in the center of Bad Hofgastein. Enjoy a delicious four-course menu in Sportgastein – surrounded by the bright white 3,000-meter peaks of the national park – that is what the Full Moon Dinner promises.

    Winter event highlights

Gastein is considered one of Austria’s top tourism destinations and offers guests not only varied winter sports experiences, but also high-profile major events.

With the event Winter:Start Gastein 2025, the winter season begins in style and full of highlights: while the Gastein Sounds bring celebrations to the stage, the Gastein Classics in Sportgastein deliver top sporting performances on the cross-country track.

Spectacular sports highlights include the cross-country races of the Gastein Classics in December, the traditional Snowboard World Cup on Bucheben in January and "Die Nord - Das Rennen".

Art also plays an important role in the Gastein Valley: at “Art on Snow”, unique snow and ice sculptures can be experienced in all ski areas of Gastein.
