Freeride in the Sportgastein ski area

Sportgastein is where sporty skiers feel at home. When snow conditions are right, the area around the slopes opens up expansive freeride opportunities with powder snow, deep snow and spring snow.

The three marked ski routes are especially popular:

    • Golden Powder
    • Golden Rush
    • Golden Ride

These routes lead down around 1,000 vertical meters from the summit area to the valley floor of Sportgastein and offer an intense off-piste experience. Wide slopes, natural terrain features and long descents make the area a special setting for ambitious skiers.

Please always pay attention to the current avalanche information as well as warning signs and barriers in the terrain.

    • Information on the current avalanche warning level

This gives you the ideal preparation for your freeride descent.

    Off-piste training in Sportgastein

If you want to improve your skills in open terrain, Sportgastein offers ideal training opportunities.

In the immediate vicinity of the valley station of the Goldbergbahn, there is a large avalanche search field. Here you can practise using avalanche transceivers in realistic conditions and train important steps for an emergency.

Guided off-piste tours are offered as part of special events, such as the X-Perience Day, as well as on request with local freeride guides.
